Introduction and History

The Field Archery Association of India is a non-profit Organization dedicated to the sport of tradition archery from year 2010. The FAAI is dedicated to the conservation and preservation of game and its natural habitat. The organization is very active in cooperating with federal and state agencies and sportsmen and conservation organizations. It is resolved to foster, perpetuate and preserve "the use of the bow in accordance with its ancient and honorable traditions." We tasks ourselves with organizing Field Archery events on behalf of archery States, Districts and clubs in INDIA. This includes national leagues and championships for Field, Indoor, Bow Hunter and 3D shooting styles.

Field archery is one of the most enjoyable forms of archery. The health aspects of walking around in a bush environment with like minded people that enjoy the sport of Archery is a wonderful experience, it is also a sport that can be enjoyed by all people. The variety of equipment available makes sure that all people from all walks of life can be catered for.

The best part of Field Archery is that any age of person can enjoy the Archery, whether its 5 or 95 years of age it doesn't matter, all age Archers can enjoy in their own group as well as in professionals.

What is Field Archery?

Since 2010 FAAINDIA is organizing field archery (performed in forest) national events for u10, u14, u17, u19, senior & veteran ( above 35 ) with 13 bow styles approved by International Field Archery Association with minimum participation of 15 states, 300 archers including each category to promote archery all over India for all age archers.

Field Archery is challenging form of archery carried out under a fight system, where 3 to 6 competitors are grouped into fight on a field course.

Field Archery courses had marked in yardages/ meters. Field Round events are consists of 28 targets of all black and white face with black center dot target face with as per mention in IFAA field rules. Field Round is shoot in 2 units of 14 targets in which 4 arrows are shot at each target, so a total no of 112 arrows per Field Round and Hunter Round. Some of shooting positions required all four arrows to be shot from same mark position; other shooting position have marked pegs at four different positions requiring walk-up toward target on each shot or shot taken in fan position. Shooting distances will vary according shooting round the standard Field Round have distance varying from 200 feet to 80 yards (73.15 meters). Cubs under the age of 13 shot at distance between 200 feet to 30 yards (27.43 meters). The maximum score on each target is 20 points and perfect round is 560.

Other type of around are the 'Hunter' Round, shot as per distance mentioned in IFAA rules similar to the Field Round except that target faces are all black face with white center dot. A range on this round varies from 33 feet to 70 yards (64.00 meters).

The Animal Round shot on 2-d animal target faces. Distance is marked as per IFAA guideline. Scoring is different of this round. 3 arrows must be marked with 1, 2, and 3 rings separately. In fan and walk-up distances at peg-1 arrow no. 1 shall be shot. If the arrow hits the target you not need to shoot another arrow but you miss the arrow you must move to next shooting peg (as per fan or walk-up distance) to shoot number 2 arrow.

If you hit the scoring zone there is no need to shoot arrow number 3. If you miss first 2 shots, move up and shoot number 3 arrow. The scoring is divided into 2 parts, the kill and wound zone and scored accordingly. Scoring is based on where you hit with which arrow. Kill zone hits 20 points and wound zone 18 points with reduction of 4 points on every miss shot. Full scoring for the round is 560 points.

What is Field Indoor Archery?

The Field Indoor Round (fixed distances performed in indoor stadium) also popular among cubs, beginner, youngster and club division archers because its conducted on shorter distances (minimum 10 meters and maximum 18 meters as per category in a indoor hall.

Since 2010 FAAINDIA is organizing Field Indoor Round championship (fixed distances performed in indoor stadium) national event for u10, u14, u17, u19, senior and veteran (above 35 years) with 13 bow styles approved by International Field Archery Association with at least minimum participation of 20 states, more than 500 archers in all sanctioned age category, to promote all over India for all age categories.

Field Indoor Round shoot in 3 days course 12 end per round, consist of 2 units of 6 ends. In each round archers have to change their shooting position after 6 ends along with target face. Target face choose by archer on day 1 will be final for whole competition. There are 2 kind of target faces are used single spot and 5 spot. Every archer has to shoot 5 arrows each end on allotted detail. On single spot faces point system is divide in 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and x points from outer circle and in 5 spot faces archer have to shoot 5 arrows on each five circles with point system of 4, 5 and x. maximum score on each end is 25 points. Full scoring for the round is 300 points.

2. School Game Federation of India Field - Indoor Archery Championship

Field archery is also played in government organized SGFI Field Indoor Archery National Championship from last few years its organized in different states of India and its mainly played in schools category only, the age categories are under 14, under 17 and under 19 ( boys and girls ) along with 3 bow styles (Wooden, Recurve, Compound).

3. Mumbai Mayor Cup National Archery Championship

Organizing since year 2010 biggest archery event among of Indian Field Indoor Archery Championship which having cash prize and medals for all age categories and all bow styles of IFAA with participation of 700 to 1000 archers according to International Field Archery Association rules and approved 13 bow styles and age categories.
